Power usage cost calculator.

Hello beautiful peoples!

There are several reasons why one might care about power usage. One of the most important reasons is the increased prices of the electric units. By reducing power usage, one can save money on their electricity bill.

Electricity is measured in several units. The most common units are volt (V), ampere (A), and ohm (Ω).

Electrical usage is measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh), which is the amount of energy used by a 1-kilowatt appliance for one hour.

To calculate the power usage You must find out how many Watts the device is using.

  • Some devices have wattage on their box / label / power supply. In this case You can just enter the amount of Watts into the calculator below.

  • Other devices have voltage and amperage on their box / label / power supply. In this case you can use the formula:
Watts = Volts x Amperes

Knowing this we can calculate Watts for the power supply in the photo.

12V x 2A = 24 Watts

Do the same thing for Your device. Enter the amount of Watts into the calculator below.

  • For some devices it may be necessary to use a power usage meter to determine power consumption. Read the amount of Watts from the power usage meter and enter it into the calculator below.

Now figure out the price of the electric unit your provder is charging You. It can usually be found on the back of Your latest electric bill. Enter the amount into the calculator below.

Press Calculate to see the result listed below.

.

The calculator above assumes that Your device uses 100% of its power during the calculated time. This means that it calculates “the worse case scenario“. What? How? Why? The maximum power rating of a device is the highest amount of power that the device can use. However, the actual power consumed by the device might be less than the maximum power rating. This is because the maximum power rating is the amount of power that the device can use when it is operating at its maximum capacity. In reality, the device might not always be operating at its maximum capacity. For example – computer with a power supply rated at 1200 Watts will not use 1200 Watts while idling, sleeping or even while playing less demanding game. Additionally, the efficiency of the device’s power supply can also affect the amount of power consumed by the device.

I hope this helps!

Catch you on the flip side,
