[UPDATED] The Clean Con: When Isopropyl / Rubbing Alcohol Costs More with Prime!

2025/06/2025 – Today I have realized that my wife’s fav fabrics ARE NOT available at Amazon.ie, the Prime membership was cancelled and I am now back with prime membership at Amazon.co.uk…

My wife’s happiness is a priority, she was not happy with Amazon.ie and neither was I.

Hello beautiful peoples!

This post is a continuation of my Amazon woes saga…

[UPDATE!] Why Amazon SUCKS So Bad In Republic of Ireland?

Amazon.ie: Finally Putting the ‘Aye’ in Ireland!

[UPDATED, BigWhiteRabbit tried to drag me down their rabbit hole of no reimbursments, but thankfully, Amazon hopped in and set things right!] Amazon.ie vs. Amazon.co.uk: Where Non-Stick Turns Sticky

So far my list of grievances is as long as my… arm…

Pricing Nonsense

– Same products cost significantly more on Amazon.ie (e.g. frying pans, thermal paste).

– Shipping charges added on Amazon.ie, even with Prime – whereas Amazon.co.uk offers free delivery without Prime.

– Prices change rapidly and erratically, often dropping right after you purchase – with little support for price adjustments.

Shipping Shenanigans

– Absurd shipping fees to Ireland – including a €507 delivery fee on a €475 treadmill (yes, really).

– Prime in Ireland doesn’t behave like Prime – limited Prime – eligible items, and support is inconsistent.

– Even with Prime, Amazon.ie can’t promise fast or free shipping on basic items.

Terrible Search Experience

– Search results show items not available in Ireland.

– Product availability is severely limited compared to Amazon UK.

– Even essentials (like power banks or batteries) are either unavailable or wildly overpriced.

Customer Support Failures

– Amazon UK offers superior service – including proactive refunds and better aftercare.

Prime Video Disappointment

– Fewer shows and films available on Amazon.ie’s Prime Video.

– Infuriating recommendations for content you can’t actually access.

Trust Issues & Broken Promises

– Amazon.ie launch sparked hope – but has since proven a frustrating shell of what Irish customers were promised.

– Repeated support conversations yield no change, no improvement, and no accountability.

As you can see the problems with Amazon both co.uk and .ie are many… I tried reporting them – its like talking to a cistern block. Nothing changes… You release a bit of anger and steam but long term – no effect…

Today (just over 2 months since my last Amazon related post) I would like to propose a little experiment you can try at home: open Amazon.ie, type in “isopropyl alcohol” in the search box and watch your brain leak out your ears.

I was looking for a household essential. Rubbing alcohol. Nothing more. Isopropyl alcohol (aka rubbing alcohol) is a household multitasker. It’s used to disinfect surfaces, clean electronics, remove sticky residue etc. Fast-drying, germ-killing, and endlessly handy – it’s like the Swiss Army knife of cleaning supplies. I have Amazon Prime on the Irish store, so naturally I expected… well, something resembling value. Spoiler: that was a mistake.

Search result number one? 100ml for €7.95 + €2.95 delivery. That’s €10.90 for a few drops of liquid. Right next to it? 1 litre for €14.95 + €8.95 delivery. Then a 5-litre option: €49 + €12.50 shipping. At this point, I wasn’t sure if I was buying cleaning fluid or investing in artisanal moonshine. And nothing available in Prime – you know, that mythical free-shipping perk I pay for every month…

Now here’s where things go full “quantum insanity.” I switched to a different tab in my browser and loaded Amazon.co.uk (where I don’t even have Prime) and search for the exact same thing. First result: 5 litres for €35.05 with FREE DELIVERY.

No hoops, no hidden fees, just logic and savings. Suddenly, I’m shipping chemicals across the Irish Sea like a 1920s bootlegger because it’s cheaper, faster, and easier than shopping locally on Amazon.ie.

I genuinely had to ask myself if I was hallucinating…

It’s not even about the alcohol at this point – it’s about the principle. Why am I paying more with a Prime account than someone without one on a different store? Where’s the value? Where’s the sense?

Dear Amazon.ie: please clean up your act because I am really sick and tired of your nonsense… I am just about ready to switch back to Amazon.co.uk…

Catch you on the flip side,
