Hello beautiful peoples!
I am running Pi-hole with unbound as a recursive and authoritative DNS server AND adblocker.
I was trying to check if the apartment that I live in is in the RPZ (or Rent Pressure Zone). Turns out You can easily do that by using Residential Tenancies Board Rent Pressure Zone calculator. It was not working for me tho. I was suppose to enter my full postal address or my eircode (postcode in Ireland) to find out the result but the input box was nowhere to be found. Neither in Microsoft Edge browser OR in my Brave browser which I have installed to test websites that wouldn’t properly load in my primary browser… Neither was it working in Safari on my iPhone 13 Pro Max… I disabled all adblocking addons and features of the browsers for testing and then promptly assumed their page was broken.
After a chat with BlueB however I was made aware that the issue is on my side. Turns out I forgot about Pi-hole…
So I looked into the Query Log of my Pi-hole web interface and I saw this:
Time Type Domain Client Status Reply Action
2023-12-02 14:39:55 HTTPS cdn.jsdelivr.net < REDACTED > Blocked (gravity) NODATA (0.1ms)
2023-12-02 14:39:55 A cdn.jsdelivr.net < REDACTED > Blocked (gravity) IP (0.1ms)
2023-12-02 14:39:55 AAAA cdn.jsdelivr.net < REDACTED > Blocked (gravity) IP (0.1ms)
And quickly added cdn.jsdelivr.net
to the whitelisted domains…
And that was enough for the RPZ calculator to be working just fine again.
Pi-hole was working so well for me I forgot it was there… Silently working in the background, blocking those pesky ads.
Never caused a single problem (as far as I can tell) until today. Practically became invisible…Thanks Pi-hole!
I hope this helps!
Catch you on the flip side,
AndrzejL
