Another Fake Pendrive Victim…

Hello beautiful peoples!

Fake pendrives are USB flash drives that are made to look like they have a larger storage capacity than they actually do. They are created by messing with the firmware of the drive to display a larger capacity than the actual physical storage capacity of the drive.

These fake pendrives are dangerous because they can cause data loss, corruption, and other issues. They are also a waste of money since you are paying for a larger capacity that you are not actually getting.

To spot a fake pendrive, you can use the “if it’s too good to be true” rule. If you find a drive that is priced significantly lower than other pendrives with similar storage capacities, it is likely to be a fake. You can also check the packaging and the pendrive itself for any spelling mistakes or other errors. However, these methods are not foolproof, and the best way to ensure that you are buying a genuine pendrive is to buy from a reputable seller.

Yesterday I have received such a pendrive from a friend of a friend who fell victim to such a scam. He bought a drive that claimed to have a storage capacity of 982GB.

I have tested it and found that it only had a capacity of 58GB. He had lost all his important data. This is why it is important to be careful when buying pendrives and to use common sense and reputable sources when purchasing such items.

Thanks to article written by BlueB I was also able to determine the actual size of the drive and “fix” the drive by limiting its capacity to the correct one. I still wouldn’t trust such drive with any important data but at least now its kind of usable.

Spread awareness especially to a non-techie people!

Catch you on the flip side,
