[SOLVED?] Fortnite runs very sluggish after each game update but uninstalling and reinstalling it helps?

Hello beautiful peoples!

Lets get this out of the way first:
– Yes, I do play Fortnite.
– Yes, I suck at it.
– Yes, I am an Unc.

My PC, which is on the older side (just like me), has trouble running Fortnite smoothly. However, after killing a bunch of background processes, disabling the Windows Search service, lowering the screen resolution from 2560 × 1440 to 1920 × 1080, and using specific in‑game settings, I’m able to get around 60 fps, which is “playable”.

For quite a while now, I’ve noticed that after each game update (and sometimes after an Epic Games Launcher update), the game becomes very sluggish. The FPS counter jumps up and down like a frog in a toilet bowl, making the game unplayable. The only fix that seems to work is uninstalling Fortnite, then uninstalling the Epic Games Launcher, rebooting Windows, and reinstalling both. When reinstalling, I have to make sure NOT to install the “High Resolution Textures” and to DO install the “Pre-download Streamed Assets” for the game.

It’s all nice and fine, but uninstalling, rebooting, downloading, and reinstalling takes time. So I thought there must be something I could do to speed this up. What does uninstalling both the launcher and the game actually do?

Today, after the Epic Games Launcher update, it happened again, and I decided to mess around with it. After a while, I think I figured out what was fixing it for me.

Right click on the start menu and chose “Run” from the pop-up menu.

In the “Run” window type in:

%localappdata%\EpicGamesLauncher\Saved\

and click “OK”

When the File Explorer window opens look at the content of the folder, find folders with “webcache” in the name and delete them all. Leave the rest of the folders alone.

Now reboot Your PC and the game should be running faster again.

I hope this helps!

Catch you on the flip side,
