Hello beautiful peoples!
The title of this post is, of course, a joke; however, there is only so much bad luck one can experience without starting to believe that some evil forces are out to get them.
Recently, my wife and I have experienced a series of unfortunate events:
• I suffered from an eye infection that lingered for over two weeks.
• Our dehumidifier stopped working. I had to send it back for a refund and now need to purchase a new one. Meanwhile, we’re without one, which is quite inconvenient in Ireland’s humid climate. Opening a window isn’t an option due to the winter weather and the high cost of heating. This situation leaves us susceptible to mold. Once I receive the refund from Amazon (in about 2-3 weeks), it will still take 1-2 weeks before we can replace the dehumidifier.
• Our paper shredder broke down, requiring us to purchase a new one (€€€).
• My hair clippers stopped working mid-use, necessitating another new purchase (€€€).
• The battery in my mini pocket keyboard swelled and died, leading to yet another replacement (€€€).
• Several other minor household items, which we’ve had for years, suddenly decided to fail and needed replacement (€€€).
The theme for the past two weeks has been “unexpected expenses… (€€€)”.
In addition to that:
• The ensuite bathroom sink started intermittently leaking. I would walk in to find a shallow puddle on the floor. Initially, we were unsure of the source. After some investigation, we pinpointed it to the sink, though we still can’t identify the exact cause or timing of the leaks.
• Our Indesit IWC 61451 washing machine stopped heating during cycles. Although it otherwise functions normally—taking in water, washing, rinsing, and spinning—the clothes remain cold. I suspect a failure in either the thermostat or the heating element. This washing machine, over 10 years old, has been well-maintained with regular cleanings to prevent limescale buildup. Despite this, it seems to have reached the end of its life.
None of these issues are our fault. Nevertheless, I had to have an uncomfortable conversation with our landlord to report these problems, less than two weeks before Christmas. Thankfully, our landlord was understanding and is trying to address these issues amidst the pre-Christmas rush. However, it still felt awkward to bother him, even though we pay rent and expect the basic amenities to function properly.
Today, after a call with our landlord, my wife jokingly mentioned, “Someone cursed us…” and sometimes it does feel that way. Nearly three weeks without a single day passing without something going wrong—it certainly feels like we’ve been cursed.
What do you think? Let me know in the comments. 😉
Catch you on the flip side,
AndrzejL
